Four numbers decide whether an infrared frame drops into your housing: the panel diagonal, the frame outer size, the bezel width and the glass clearance. Here is how they relate.
From diagonal to active area
For a 16:9 panel, the active area is the diagonal times 0.8716 for width and 0.4903 for height, in inches. A 55 inch panel is therefore 47.94 × 26.97 inch, or 1,217 × 685 mm. For 16:10 use 0.8485 and 0.5303; for 4:3 use 0.8 and 0.6.
If you have the LCD datasheet, use its active area instead — a "55 inch" panel is not always exactly 55.0, and 2 mm of difference at the edge is the difference between a frame that fits and one that clips the image.
From active area to frame outer size
Add the bezel on each side. Our standard is 13 mm left, right and top, and 19 mm at the bottom where the controller and cable sit. So a 55 inch frame is 1,217 + 26 = 1,243 mm wide and 685 + 13 + 19 = 717 mm tall, quoted as 1,243 × 714 mm depending on the exact panel.
What your housing needs
The cut-out should be the frame outer size plus 2 mm on each side for tolerance. Behind the frame you need 12 mm of depth: 9.5 mm for the frame profile and 2.5 mm for the controller PCB. Leave an extra 30 × 40 mm channel at the cable exit.
The glass question
An infrared frame tolerates glass up to 5 mm thick as standard, and 8 mm with the wide-gap version. Thicker glass shifts the beam plane, which changes the effective touch height and, at the corners, the accuracy. If your front glass is 6 mm or more, tell us at quotation stage — the frame has to be built with a taller profile, not adjusted afterwards.
What happens with a non-16:9 panel
Stretched displays (32:9, 21:9) and 4:3 retrofits are routine. The LED count is calculated from the perimeter and the beam pitch, so an unusual aspect ratio is a normal order — but quote against the active area, never against the diagonal alone. A 43 inch 32:9 panel and a 43 inch 16:9 panel have the same diagonal and completely different frames.
